My outcomes for the course were exactly what I expected. In my first blog I mentioned wanting the information from the course to flow over into my personal life and it definitely has. I think I achieved the course objectives the best I could considering the circumstances of the semester being changed a little with COVID-19 taking over everyone’s lives. My attitude about social psychology has changed for the better now that I understand a little bit more about the psychology of why people may act or think a certain way. I think my organization for this course went well although I wish the archive items due dates were listed on the syllabus so they can be written in my planner as well. I think I have missed a few archives items so I will see how that plays out in my grades at the end of the school year. Due to the extended spring break and changes in nearly all of my syllabi I think a skill I gained this year was flexibility. I also learned the skill of recognizing the type of love and affection I desire and utilize that in my personal and professional life.

I chose this picture because this semester has been a roller coaster to say the least. I am proud of the growth that I have displayed this semester but I am also saddened to say that my senior year is coming to an end and it hasn’t gone as planned. This semester has taught me a lot academically,as well as, many life lessons.

Within this course I have learned about the difference that ones’ surroundings can make. Social psychology explains a lot about why a person may act or think a certain way and how their surrounds can affect them personally. One area that stood out to me was the assessment on the type of love one displays. For this assignment, I learned that the love I display and desire when it comes to a romantic relationship and other relationships like friendships. Completing this assignment helped me take away more information about myself and more emotional intelligence which in turn was applied in my assignment take away assignment. I was able to take this information and become more aware of my emotions in professional and personal settings so I can recognize when I am acting a certain way. This information was also applied to my psychology of women course when we talked about different types of love that women desire that may differ from men. Oftentimes women react before thinking and the emotional intelligence I now understand has given me the skill set to assess my emotions first in any situation.

I think this article is very interesting because people thing that sexual conflict ends in the relationship stage before marriage is in the picture. Things like false effort just for sex, and jealousy are things that can occur in several stages of the relationship and/ or marriage, so it is interesting to understand that considering I have never been married. One way a man can upset a woman is to act nonchalantly about issues that she finds important or taking serious matters lightly or as jokes. One way a woman can upset a man is to nag. Men can’t stand to be fussed at by their lady as if she were their mother.

There is a positive relationship between self-regulations and emotional intelligence. Emotional intelligence to me is the idea of being aware, controlling, and expressing emotions. I can understand how emotional intelligence is necessary in someone’s personal and professional life. I can now apply this information in my everyday life to get a better understanding on my strengths and weaknesses in emotional intelligence. One example of me displaying emotional intelligence may be a situation at work when I make me in a particular emotional state and having to control those emotions. I could improve my emotional intelligence by paying more attention to these times outside of work situations.

This ted talk made me objectified as a woman. I found it interesting to take the time to really consider ads and how they display women. These advertisements make women feel insecure about themselves by utilizing photoshopping tools to encourage people to believe that women should be light in skin with straight hair, perfect teeth, young looking skin, and skinny. The message that these ads put across set standards for the “perfect” woman and that then misleads the expectations of men for realistic women. Prior to seeing this video, I had a good idea of how ads dehumanize and stereotype women. I knew that ads primarily show “perfect” women or have lack of clothing on women rather than men. The new understanding that this video offers is how these ads affect young children and incorporating the idea that these advertisements are a form of pornography. Allowing children to see these ads at a young age has a large effect on their self-esteem.

The first advertisement seems to be the most credible out of the three. For credibility I look for things like expert opinion, and trustworthiness of the facts on the advertisements. For this toothpaste advertisement, they list the ingredients and factors these ingredients play in a healthy smile. The second picture does not seem as credible as the first example. This example in particular does not seem credible because it does not have any facts associated with the ad that explains how this pom juice can help one’s health to the point that they “cheat death.” The last picture represents the attractive source because it is appealing to the eye. This example is eye-catching because one it has Rihanna on the front wearing her own make up line. Being that Rihanna is a well-known artist, people are interested in whatever she is advertising. This is also appealing because it shows both females with flawless skin as to show what this makeup can do for each viewer.

The first exam in every class always stresses me out because testing styles can be different for each professor and I never know what to expect. For this course, I decided to get a notebook just for this course and take notes as if I were in an on campus class. My notes were chapter by chapter and color coded. I made sure to highlight any vocabulary words or concepts that were important. Before the test, I took the time to read over my handwritten notes the night of. Luckily, my photographic memory was working well with these concepts because I received a 90% on the test. Considering this strategy worked well for me, I will continue this process for the remainder of the semester in hopes that I get As on all of my test.

Personally, I have experienced a positive connection between music and relationships. I find that my close friends and I tend to share similar interest in music. I also think that this connection is stronger between me and my boyfriend. This connection may be accompanied by a similar nationality and backgrounds. My friends and I are all close in age so we are familiar with the popularity of songs that come and go over time. In the instance with some of my friends our value and ideals are present in this connection. For example, my friends who attend church may know and appreciate “church” music.

I have to come to think of myself as a well-rounded student. Not only am I a full-time student but I am a full-time employee at a financial institution too. Because I am able to maneuver my schedule for both work and school, I find that I am good at managing my time well. I have also noticed that I am extremely resourceful. I do not tend to stay stuck on something I can’t figure out for too long before seeking out useful resources. Being able to balance work, life, and school has built my confidence in handling different amounts of workloads at one time. My confidence is high considering I know the expectations I have for myself and giving up or not succeeding is not an option. In relation to my task accomplishments, the self-efficacy results that I got was the score of 35. This built up my confidence a little more to know how I am able to take care of things for myself.

The course objectives for the course Social Psychology grabbed my attention from the start. The objectives listed in the syllabus include things like understanding the behavior of others, explanation of attitudes, origins of prejudice mindsets, the formation of relationships, and the connections we make with others. These course objectives will be helpful in the future with my success in completing this course with a passing grade. I do not have much background on this information but I am expecting to learn details on each objective throughout the length of this course. These details will be useful in using for my own personal use as well. Understanding why I may feel a certain way about a person, or how connections are formed will allow me to better read the people that are already a part of my life as well as new people who may enter. In hopes to understand the information presented in this course, I have a strategic plan to implement that will hopefully ensure my success in the course. So far I have been writing all my assignment due dates in my personal planner along with printing out the course schedule. Having two forms of reminders will allow me to physically cross off each assignment so I do not miss any. This strategy has worked out well in the last three years of college. Of course there are a couple mishaps here and there, but for the most part, this has been successful for me.

I decided on this photo because I use my laptop for everything. All of my notes and course information is on my macbook.
