Based on blog 1, I expected this course to be very heavy with assignments and student interaction. I was correct with the assignments, since we had multiple one to finish throughout the week. However I quickly learned how to manage them and I was less stress then I envisioned. Also, there was little to no student interaction throughout this course like I expected. I would say I could answer and explain the course objectives to anyone. I have gained a much better understanding of them from when the class begun.

My attitudes about social psychology have changed a lot. I knew very little about it prior to this class, and I ended up finding most of our assignments and discussed topics very interesting. This would develop into one of my favorite fields of psychology, because I find it so interesting trying to analyze why people do what they do in society and in social settings. The only thing I would do different is read the syllabus again during the semester, because I ended up doing all five assignments when we only needed to do four.

I have remained very consistent throughout this course with the assignments and grade, and have been very successful. In return this has helped me grow academically, because I have developed new study and time management skills during this course that have also helped throughout all of my courses. I have learned a lot about love styles during this course, and specially about my own. This new learned knowledge has helped me in my personal life, while trying to put myself out there again after a breakup.

I included an image of my academic growth. From blog 2 which I received a 4.5/5 grade with comments. I read the comments and fixed my mistake, which worked out well.

The top three things I have learned in this course are heuristics, the medias roll in our society and a lot about myself. Heuristics are the short cuts in our brains that help with decision and judgment making. During this course we focused on the representatives, availability, status quo and anchoring and adjustment heuristics. Next, there were a view assignments that have touched on the medias roll in our society, specially how negatively women are portrayed, and used as sex symbols. Lastly, I learned an amble amount about myself through this course. From the type of love style I am, to the level of my emotional intelligence and the type of student I am. I have learned that my love style is high in eros, mania and egape. Meaning, I find looks to be important, I search for the feeling of reassurance and the feeling of actually falling in love.

Blog 7 discusses the idea of emotional intelligence, which is the ability to control and evaluate ones emotions. This idea relates back to our love style assignment. A person’s level of emotional intelligence would help to determine their love style. For example a person with a high emotional intelligence my score low in the eros style, since that is primarily based on physical aspects of a person rather than emotions. However, they may score high in storge, since this suggest that a person is looking to form more of an emotional connection from their partner, and may become best friends before engaging in a relationship.

Module 8 discusses stereotypes which relates back to ethics and morality in sports class. During the course there was constant discussion about stereotypes in sports, regarding race, gender and age ect. For module 8 archives we were asked to assign two adjectives to difference ethnic and racial groups. This reminded me of the concept of racial stacking in sports. This explains that coaches will select players to play special postilions just based on their race. For example, choosing the white football player to be quarterback and the black player to be the running back, regardless of individual skill.

I provided images of my two google docs I use for this class to demonstrate my organizational process when narrowing down what I learned this semester.

This was a very interesting article that changed my way of thinking. I have never thought to consider that sexual conflict is related back to evolutionary psychology, however if makes perfect sense. Humans want to mate with other humans, who share similar desires as them. Humans who lack the common sexual desires will be a victim of natural section since less people would want to mate with them. The exercise the professor did with his classes seems amazing, and a great way to convey his lesson. If our class was in person I would look forward to participating in that activity, and hearing what others have to come up with.

Men upset women by lying to them and leading them on. The article discusses how in the prior to consummation phase how men will lie to get what they want, I believe this can last throughout an entire relationship. Initially, men will lead women on when trying to pursue them. They may give women false hopes of a relationship when all they really want is sex. While in a relationship men can begin to pressure and make women feel guilty about not having sex with them when the men want to, and that can be very upsetting for women. It can also be upsetting when men are not emotionally available for women.

Women can upset men when they do not met the men’s sexual desires. While in a relationship most men feel as though their girlfriend should want to have sex as much as they do, however that is usually not the case. This will cause conflict, because men start to believe that their girlfriend may not be attracted to them anymore. Additionally, it can cause a build up of sexual frustration. It can also be upsetting to men when a woman they are interested in begins to show interest in another man.

The included a visually representation of when a women is frustration with a man. The image displays a couple in bed, with the woman looking frustrated and the man looking disappointed.

Self-regulation is a key component when considering the skills that make up emotional intelligence. Self-regulation relates to emotional intelligence because it helps us to manage and control our emotions. Additionally, it helps to manage impulse control. Personally, emotional intelligence means ones ability to control their emotions. The more emotionally intelligent someone is, the better they are at making the appreciate decisions in a situations. Having a high emotional intelligence is very powerful, especially when in a leadership role.

Emotional intelligence can be displayed during moments of stress. While in a stressful situation, someone with high emotional intelligence will remain calm and composed. While someone with a lower emotional intelligence may begin to panic. To help improve ones emotional intelligence it would be helpful to keep a journal. By journaling events that trigger unpleasant emotions, and writing out an effective way to handle that situation could help one to prepare for future triggering events. Additionally, one can practice positive self-talk. This includes talking to your self about what it may feel like when under control and focused. By repeating the positive self-talk it can turn into actions.

I include a screen shot of my results from an emotional intelligence test. This test displayed a fascial expression, then asked out of the four emotions which was being displayed on the person’s face.

The first reaction I started to developed about the Ted Talk is that it is out dates. Yes, it only came out 6 years ago but our society has progressed a large amount since then. Jean Kilbourne states how models are forced to look perfect by being young, skinny with perfect skin. However, now in 2020 companies have started to hire plus size models and the “averaged” looking person to help sell their products. Now it has becoming much more expecting to not be viewed as “perfect”. However, I still do believe that the issues Kilbourne has address in the Ted Talk remain true, but our society is progressing to be more expecting of all appearances. One thing that I believe will never change is using the women body as a sexual image.

Being a women myself, I think the way women are portrayed on advertisements are very obvious to me. I believe that I begin to notice it once I start comparing myself to those women. Typical they are the most gorgeous people around, and one can not help to feel slightly insecure, or wish they looked like the model. I have also notice the shift in the advertisement world, to a more realistic version of how people look, and I relive it extremely important for advertisements companies to maintain doing that. Now, I have a better understanding that not only women effect by advertisements but also men. Men have an image they are expect to uphold as well. Not only men and women, but children are being sexualized. I have never considered that while viewing ads about children, but the Ted Talk made that very evident.

I include the ad about Nair because, it shows how women are expected to eliminate the hair on their legs, armpit and pubic area. Additionally, the ad implies that in order to be sexy one must used their product. I included the Huggies advertisement because they are sexualized the toddlers, by dressing them as adults with jean diapers on. I included the Victoria Secret ad saying “The Perfect Body”. This was the perfect ad to include, because all the girls look the exact same, tall and skinny. Which is implying that if you want the “perfect” body you must look like those women. I include the Heineken bad to demonstrate how women and men are shown differently in ads. The man in the ad is shirtless but the majority of his body being shown is his face. While the only body part of the woman being shown is her bottom. I include the Blu ad to show that women are constantly being sexualized, even when the product is not sexy.

The ad I selected to demonstrate a creditable source is the one with a doctor. This is creditable because we can trust what the doctor is saying since he is an expert in that field. Not only is the doctor shown on the advertisement but so is his name, Dr. Satbir Golar and his profession. Additionally, the ad also encompasses a static that give the product a positive look.

The ad selected to demonstrate a source that is not creditable is a toothpaste ad with a women touching her teeth (B). I selected this one because of how fake it seems. The teeth are perfectly straight and white, however we do not know if the lady in the ad truly used the Oral-B toothpaste being shown.

The ad selected to demonstrate attractive source is the one with Taylor Swift and Coke (C). I selected this ad because it uses an attractive celebrity to help sell their products. This tends to be more persuading because of the celebrity. Since Taylor Swift was a large fan base, it was smart of Coke to team up with her because more people will want to drink coke because she is drinking it too.

A. Credible source B. Not Credible source C. Attractive source

For the first exam I was very pleased, slightly shocked, about my results, because I got a 100%. Through reviewing the feedback of the test, I did not necessarily learn new information. however, I did learn that the way I am preparing for the exam is leading me to success and I should maintain doing that. My preparation strategies for this and all my exams is creating quizlets. Making quizlets is the only way I study, because I have found that this method works best for me. I like to break down the quizlets by chapter, so it is not too much information all at once, then I use the “write” tool to study from. By looking back at this exam it has helped my for future exams, because it demonstrated that my preparation strategies are successful and that I should continut doing so.

I provided a screenshot of a quizlet I used to help prepare me for the exam.

There is a very strong connection between music and relationship. Personally, I noticed that my current and past partners have all shared similar music taste as I. Having a musical connection with another person is an amazing way to bond with them. Additionally, I have noticed a connect with only some of my friends. I find it very interesting that I have clearly the same music taste as my significant there, but when it comes to my friends it may vary. For my friends, we all share similar music taste so when we are together we can bond and listen to music we all like. However, I have noticed that when we listen to music alone it can be slightly different. I feel as though it is nearly obvious that I share similar values and ideals with my friend, or I would not be friends with them, which is why it would make sense that we share similar taste in music. I have found that that I share a much stringer relationship with those in my life who have a similar music taste to mine. When associating certain people with certain songs I immediately think of my parents because they would sing to me when I was younger, for example the song The Joker by Steve Miller Band automatically reminds me of my dad, and the song Tiny Dance by Elton John reminds me of my mom. The song Crazy In Love by BeyoncĂ© reminds me of my high school boyfriends, because that was the song of the singing valentine he sent me, and the song Why You Gotta Walk Like That by YNW Melly reminds me of my current boyfriend.  Music can also bring people back to a certain moment. For example, every time I hear the song That’s What I Like by Bruno Mars I think about my time playing lacrosse in high school. The song Dreams and Nightmares by Meek Mill. I felt strongly about including this song because it represents where I am from, Philadelphia.

I include a picture of myself with my fellow lacrosse teammates, to represent the song That’s What I Like by Bruno Mars.

I believe I am a moderately confident student. I know my limits. For most aspect of school such as assignments and case studies I excel at. However, when it comes to test/quiz taking my confidence tends to dwindle. To increase my confidence when it coms to test I could apply myself better. I study for all of my test, but always feel as though I have study the wrong things. To fix that I could study more information, or take better notes on what the professor emphasis during class. For the self-efficacy results I scored at 31. This suggest that I have a higher degree of self-confidence and I belief that I can accomplish task that I have set to preform. I agree with these results. I am very driven to success, and once I have seen success I makes me more motivated, already knowing that I can do it. My self-confidence is a reault of being successful in the past, and mentally knowing that I am capaible of everything put in my path.

My Grades
I include a picture of my grades last semester to show what a self-confident student can do.

When opening the syllabus, course objectives can be found outlined on the first page. Having the objectives laid out ahead of time is extremely helpful for many reasons. One, it helps to get a better understanding of the class, and what us as students can be expected to learn. Additionally, it helps to understand the important takeaways from this class. All the information we learn is key, however some are more substantial than others, making it really helpful when professors state that at the beginning of the course. I expect this course to be a heavy workload that requires an ample amount of engagements from the students. I also expect student interaction. Although this is an online class, in psychology it is important to have discussions with others. Discussions help gain better knowledge are different ways to interpret the topics we learn about. Through this course I am looking to gain a better understanding of what social psychology is, and how I could use that information in the sports management field. The number one strategies I will be implement to be successful in this course is organization. Since this course is online it requires the students to have good time management skills and be self-driven. Personally, I have a planner to help with that. Every month i check Blackboard and input all my assignments, tests and quizzes into my planner. Weekly, I go through my planner and create a to-do list for each week.

Availability Heuristic Meme
This image perfectly demonstrates the idea of availability heuristic. The man has just read about a plane crash, and based on the information that is now at the forefront of his mind, he is scared to fly in an airplane.
