About Me
My name is Marshall Shepherd, and I am a transfer student attending ODU with aspirations of achieving a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering. My objectives are to become a first generation college graduate, and to find a career path in which I can thrive and enjoy. CYSE 201S will help me achieve my goals by being able to deep-dive into the electrical and electronic world, and see how human nature has shaped it.
Electrical engineering and fluid mechanics go hand in hand for several reasons. Different types of fluids have different densities and characteristics, which is important when determining the size and type of electric motor to use. Electrical engineers are also involved in the way the motors, valves, solenoids, etc. are controlled, depending on the type of operation and its requirements. It is also important to choose the most cost effective, most efficient way of moving and extracting fluids, especially in the oil and gas industry. The study of fluid mechanics can help me be a more well rounded engineer, because fluid dynamics cover so many subjects, from blood flow in hospital equipment to water flow in a hydroelectric dam.
