Week 8 Journal Entry

                The media tends to focus on high-profile cyberattacks, which can lead people to believe that just because it didn’t happen to them, then they are safe from any other cyberattacks. Also, the media tends to portray hackers as shady characters wearing hoodies that are few and far between, sitting in a coffee shop writing code and hacking into your computer. It is much more complex and common than that, with threats of phishing, malware and bank impersonators being a more realistic threat.

                I feel like if the media portrayed cybersecurity in a more realistic, everyday, obtainable career choice, then more people might have an interest in choosing a career path focused on cybersecurity. I suppose though, that sometimes movies and television purposely make hacking styles and techniques vague or wrong to avoid teaching the general public tips on hacking.
