There is no doubt that there is a relationship between emotional intelligence and self- regulation. For instance, emotions are inside of every individual which simply means that one has the ability to control and regulate them. Being able to have excellent self- control only proves that an individual has a high level of emotional intelligence. Self- regulation is a key component of emotional intelligence, because it represents that one is capable of discipline and constraint. Monitoring emotions requires taking a step back when one realizes that his or her emotions are beginning to cloud their judgement or get in the way of their mental state.

To me, emotional intelligence means that being able to understand situations and control myself even though my judgement might be clouded with my emotions. Emotional intelligence is being able to understand, assess, and manage my emotions despite what the situation might involve. One way I could improve my emotional intelligence is doing some kind of breathing exercise to allow my mind and body to calm down and think more clearly. Doing a breathing exercise will force my mind to make more rational and acceptable decisions.

According to the quiz that I took, scores ranging from 35- 55 means that my emotional intelligence level is okay. I have good relationships with some of my colleagues, but find it difficult to build new ones.
