SPAN 366 is considered one of my favorite subjects during my second year at the university in the Spring of 2021. The content is related to business worldwide, understanding each region’s culture within Latin America & Spain, and understanding the vocabulary within a company. It helps you learn new forms of expression and make cover letters and commercials, along with interviews that help you observe and learn within the professional area. There is also a discussion board where ideas and definitions are shared on relevant issues that concern a business and cultural environment, derived from different exciting articles. It should be considered that each time a module is finished, there is a comprehension test according to the material, and videos are seen in class.
Entrepreneurship is part of developing skills to capture attention, find solutions, research, and implement the best strategy for the company’s success. Knowing the company and the country where they want to enter new products is essential. In this case, SPAN 366 was based mainly on preparing us with definitions, grammar, and expressions at a business level to use on each assignment. Much of it is based on learning and then implementing it in making executive letters that go directly to a CEO or other businesses according to the context you want to convey. Therefore, at the end of the semester, the final project was based on doing an investigation to speak with the CEO of the company you chose and discuss that this country has an opportunity. Although it is in another language, it is an integral part of international business and the cultural understanding of an entrepreneur.

At the end of this class, there is a great writing project where you have to present a report on the investment, and general knowledge of the country that the student will select, where everything learned in class is put into practice.
There are two essential skills that employers are seeking, and I identify:
Sell or influence others |
Having a business and being an entrepreneur leads to several situations where the initial strategy is to convince both the employees and the CEO that the process or solution you have proposed is the correct path. In this course, I learned to obtain, analyze the information and transmit the message where the benefit is not only for the company but also for the community where the company will position itself. |
Verbally communicate |
Verbal communication is part of a business because if we do not have adequate, direct, and concrete communication about what we want to say, there may be misunderstandings between our employees and managers. When it is in another language like Spanish, we have to be more careful and know what it means and how to say it since there are countries where the words do not represent the same thing. At the same time, as I mentioned before, the tone in how they are explained can differentiate between having respect and being rude. In this course, it is a reflection that verbal communication must be effective and know the message that is meant, as you can see in the final presentation and my e-Portfolio. |
This experience is related to what I want to do in the future, an entrepreneur with her own company at an international level. Each of the skills that I have learned I will put into practice to obtain the best result and the best management for my company. Although Spanish is my first language and I know some things, I have never stopped learning how to express myself and use theories, which is why it helped me to be able to correctly execute each business letter, how respond in an interview, do my resume, an investment report, and presentation. All this will help me to guide myself to the path of success.
