For the Service Learning area, I did community service with ODU, distributing and donating food to those in need. Given that I was able to volunteer to help organize the food that would be donated and even clothing for families and to people who need it most, this is one of the most beneficial criteria of the LeADERS program. Organizing food and clothes contributions is a really fulfilling experience. It is a real way to change people’s lives and an experience that resonates with the desire to assist those in need. Also, doing this type of experience generates a sense of solidarity, generosity, compassion, and empathy that arises from getting involved in something that has a direct impact on the community. I definitely recommend that everyone at some point in their lives do an act of solidarity within their community without expecting anything in return. IAt the same time, it is one of the situations that has made me realize how valuable and important it is to share a moment of our time and what we have, both materially and emotionally. The act of arranging, categorizing, and giving away can create a sense of responsibility as well as gratitude for what one has. Unfortunately, I was unable to photograph my act of charity since, out of respect for the organization and while sorting the donations, I ran out of time to continue assisting the community.
