She specializes in
government and healthcare sectors including driving transformation, optimizing
infrastructure, and ensuring industry compliance.

1st Point of Interest

The first thing Ms. Locking talked about was the relation between hospitals and how they
are often targeted by the dark web. They are targeted often by ransomware, which involves
somebody going in to steal data, and then they often lock the system, asking for payment
before they unlock it. The hospitals are often quick to pay since their systems are
considered a necessity.

2nd Point of Interest

The second thing she talked about that I found interesting is that
doctors and hospitals are now using AI for taking notes during patient meetings. There is a
vulnerability in this if the notes were to be accessed and then changed, deleted, or stolen.

3rd Point of Interest

The final thing I thought was interesting was how some machines like MRI machines and X-
Ray machines are still running on old software and are vulnerable because they were never
designed to be cyber protected. In networks where everything is connected, they can serve
as weak point and easy access to hackers. When I talked to Ms. Locking, I asked her about
whether there would be a point in the future where these machines would be replaced due
to their vulnerability. She told me that it would be more likely that hospitals will just
continue to constantly upgrade protection rather than replacing the machine due to the
sheer price of a new machine. She did mention one thing that hasn’t been done but could
be a future possibility would be to have the module separated from the machine so that
way the software could be updated without requiring a new machine.

Conclusion

Conclusion: Ms. Locking coming to speak to our CYSE 200T class was very insightful and
informing on the different vulnerabilities that are in the healthcare industry and the
different compliances that hospitals must follow.

Mason PhillipsCYSE 200TProfessor DuvallOctober 22, 2025 Guest Speaker, Ms. Doris LockingBLUF: Ms. Doris Locking was a guest speaker for our CYSE 200T class.
