Why are you taking this class?
I am taking Sports and Strategy Communication, or COMM 462, to help develop my communication skills and learn new ways to discuss sports than just a player aspect. I am also taking this class because I love sports as a whole. While I have been playing Ice Hockey, I have also grown to love sports as a whole, loving each game as a brand new one. Each game in each sport will never be the same as any other game played. Another reason why I am taking this class was that it was recommended to me by my advisor. Sports Management is my major and this class is a part of sports management because of the communication side.
What do you like about sport?
I think what I like about sports is I grew up in a sport family and the energy it brings. My Mother and Father both grew up in Pennsylvania, Nazareth and Allentown, and my father was a huge Pittsburgh fan, meaning he liked the Steelers and the Penguins. Not as much into baseball as I am, but he okay with it. My mother had family in New Orleans so she became a Saints fan whenever she went down there to visit her family. They both moved to Virginia due to my father being in the Navy. But one thing that they kept was that love for sports. My father got my mother into hockey and she too became a Penguins fan, following me. I also have a brother that loves football and hockey, however, he is an Eagles and Flyers fan. But what I love about sports I both play and watch, is how engaged the fans can get when they watch their team play. It’s the energy inside and outside the arena that electrifies the entire atmosphere which makes it all the better.
