ODU’s Electronic Communication policy explicitly lays out the university’s expectations and rules regarding communication. First, it references Virginia Law to establish its authority to do so. Then, it clearly outlines what is considered communication. In particular, it focuses on the communication using an @odu.edu email address, stating that the email must be used for official school business. This is may seem obvious, but it is important the university states this, so that if the email was used for malicious reasons, the user will not be able to feign ignorance; all staff, faculty, and students are expected to read and adhere to the policy.
