Journal Entry #15: Digital Forensics TED Talk

In this TED Talk by David Teo, he explains that he got into digital forensics not by simply looking for it, but it was a situation where he happened to be in the right place in the right time. Of course the fact that he had an interest in the position played a role, but I think that this shows that you don’t have to necessarily be in I.T. to obtain a cybersecurity position. He mentioned that at the time there were no courses about “Digital Forensics” for anyone to take, so you either fell into it or was placed into it. He also worked in an accounting firm where his day-to-day wasn’t necessarily I.T. centric. What I can gather from this information is that there could be several types of positions that deal with cybersecurity in some way and they could present themselves in an unexpected way.

Based on this video, I feel that you should always be on the lookout for new opportunities regarding cybersecurity, even if it’s not the field that you’re currently in. There’s a possibility that you may fall into a cybersecurity career that you weren’t expecting.
