Fake vs Real Websites

Journal Entry 6:

This journal entry will compare three fake websites to three real ones and explain why they are fake compared to the real ones.

This first example is a simple Google search of Amazon. It is clear to see that there are two different links to choose from, one being https://www.amazon.com and the other being just www.amazon.com except there is a box with “Ad” written on it, this means that someone is paying to have their website as an ad on google. This is a fake Amazon scam site that could be used to steal sensitive information from customers believing it to be the actual Amazon. The advice here is to not click on links with “Ad” next to the link.

This is what appears to be a Walmart website but something is not quite right. They are asking for the customer to answer a survey to receive a $50 coupon. This one might not be very easy for some people but the fact that after the word coupon, there is a space before the exclamation point is a dead giveaway that this site is not legitimate. Incorrect grammar is always a sign a site is fraudulent. Also, a $50 coupon might be a little unbelievable, if it sounds too good to be true it probably is.

To those less internet-savvy, it may appear as the real Facebook website but people with at least a little bit of internet knowledge should see this is a fake site clearly by the URL which fails to even have the word Facebook in it. This type of scam page gets the client to fill out their email and password which they take from the client and can use to hack their facebook account or even worse, access other sensitive accounts that use the same email and password.
