Journal Entry 8:

Media influences the public’s ideas of hacking very strongly because for many it is the only instance of hacking that they ever see. This can lead to misconceptions but also educate if done correctly. Most of the time the main issue with media portraying hacking is that it all happens too quickly whereas in the real world hacking takes place over a much longer period. There are also scenarios where almost everything about the movie is completely correct and they use real commands that real hackers would use. However, most of the public will only take away the idea that hackers are these insanely intelligent people which isn’t the case most of the time and they are human just like the rest of us.
