Persuasive Paper
Every year we hear the wrongs about marijuana and never hear about the good in it. Recently, Marijuana has become legal in a few states across the United States. Many people love that they made that decision but a lot regret it. Marijuana has been here for centuries and nobody has appeared to had passed away from it. I believe that weed should be legal across the United States because research shows that it helps out in tremendous ways. Many people have experienced this drug and realized that it has helped out in so many ways that are not deadly.
Researchers show that marijuana helps prevent a lot of these common disorders. The relaxing effects of marijuana help people with depression, social anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder. A recent study published in “Drug and Alcohol Dependence” also found that very low dose of THC, one of the main compounds found in marijuana helped people feel less nervous about a public speaking task (Leah). The dose was equal to only a few puffs on a marijuana joint.
Many cases can also prove that this drug helps out in a good way. For example, the little girl Charlotte Figi she had 300 seizures a day. The doctors took a test and the results came back normal but they still couldn’t figure out what was causing all these seizures. The young girl was on several medicines that weren’t working. Therefore, she was recommended this drug called “Cannabis Oil” that saved her life. She went from having 300 seizures a day to roughly a few a day. She has to take this medicine twice a day with her food (Young).
Marijuana has a variety of types, also called strains. Strains tend to be based on leaf color as indicated in pictures, as well as the strains’ potency and medical purpose. Medical strains of marijuana are specifically grown for a particular health benefit, like pain management or reduction of nausea. Some states place restrictions on the strains of marijuana that may be legally used and sold. That refers back to the young girl named “Charlotte Figi”. She had a strain named after her and its specifically for her.
A researcher said, “it has been known to be an addictive drug that leads to needing to every day instead of trying occas”(Leah). Marijuana has affected many people performance at school, work, socializing, physical health, mental health, and intellectual abilities. Marijuana has some crazy side effects and one of the common ones are Short-term physical health. Research show’s heart rate for as long a three hours after smoking; bloodshot eyes; impaired movement; and dry mouth (Leah).
Researcher Emma Childs “indicates that cannabis could be helpful for people with anxiety”. Marijuana is commonly used for pain relief because it makes the human brain forget what the problem at the moment. Marijuana products also appear to be effective at claiming muscle spasms caused by multiple sclerosis-like easing nausea and vomiting due to chemotherapy.
It has been utilized to actuate changes in mood and conscious as well to relax. There have been studies indicating that the use of marijuana and the Cannabis Sativa plant may help to reduce the symptoms of certain ongoing medical conditions (Emma). Some of the major findings indicate that it helps glaucoma, cancer, and multiple sclerosis patients. Other studies have disputed these claims. Research has shown that using marijuana does reduce nausea and vomiting in cancer patients receiving chemotherapy (Emma). However, while more than 18 states have legalized marijuana for medical purposes until recently marijuana for recreational purposes remained illegal.
Legalizing and regulating marijuana will bring one of the nation’s largest cash crops under the rule of law. This will create jobs and economic opportunities in the formal economy instead of the illicit market. Also, the scarce law enforcement resources will be better used to ensure public safety while reducing corrections and court costs. State and local governments would acquire significant new sources of tax revenue from regulating marijuana sales. Marijuana product testing is becoming a standard requirement for legalized marijuana markets. This means consumers are better informed about the marijuana they use.
Therefore, research shows that marijuana has many reasons why it should be legalized in the United States. The drug has many ways that it could be utilized in ways that aren’t harmful to people. Researchers also have proven that it could also be used to make the state revenue and save people lives that are having health issues. Many people may not see the good now but in the long run, it really helps out.
