During this past Spring 2018 semester at ODU, I have progressed a lot and learned a lot about myself as a writer. English 211 has taught me a lot and it has also tremendously helped me improve my writing skills. At the beginning of this class I thought that we were going to do nothing but writer papers all the time but it turned out to be more than just papers. At first my writing started off horrible and I wanted to give up because I knew that I wasn’t the best writer come from a school where we barely wrote paper. Overall, I can see my writing getting better with each essay that I have written for this class. I still have a hard time with my transitions from paragraph to paragraph, and that is something that I still need to work on. There is always room to improve on your paper because without creating yours errors you can’t excel. For example, on our first essay, basically explaining why you felt it was important to you. I felt as if I should had put research in it but that wasn’t called for. When it came to the research paper I felt very comfortable writing it because of my mistakes on my previous essays and also what I learned in 110C. I took things that I did wrong in my other essays and corrected them in the final essay. I feel as if 110C prepared me for 211C because I had put in a lot of time and effort into that class to prepare myself for the next level course. I also feel that my writing skills are at a sophomore-level composition class. I have also seen myself grow as I write my body paragraphs. I can tell that my body paragraphs have a lot more structure to them. They also make more sense because its more explanatory and comprehensive. Every paper has a reason behind it and the audience wants to see why the writer feels that way. Overall, this class has helped me a lot and I feel very comfortable and prepared to writer papers in my other classes. I am glad that this class faced me with a lot of challenges because if you aren’t challenged then you aren’t learning and also, you’re not growing as writer. Also, if you don’t put in the work your papers will not turn out the way you thought it would. English papers take time because you have to put in the Time, Thoughts, Process, Research, Reading, and make sure that everything makes since. Therefore, I learned a lot from this class it thought me things that I thought I wouldn’t use in the future after school but it did. I’m more aware of what needs to be done to a paper instead of looking at the prompt like what to do. My writing skills has improved from the beginning to the end because I put in the time and effort for it. English 211C taught me a lot and I look forward to using the tools that were provided to me.
