Why am I interested in Cybersecurity reminds me of the video of the lady explaining how everyones path is a different path. Mine, probably like most is very much unique. I am starting from the ground up and honestly, I feel like I’m six feet under currently. I got out of the U.S. Navy a little over ten years ago, worked for my dad’s construction business prior to that. For the last eight of ten years, I worked as a civilian federal employee and recently quit my job to go to school full time. Been planning this for the last four years, but the pandemic threw a curve ball into the start time I planned for. But, the same pandemic enlightened me on how I want to earn a living. I want to be able to live wherever I feel like living, have a very short commute, and never deal with traffic. I am not discouraged about starting from nothing, I have accomplished many things I had no clue what I was doing. Staying confident, relating situations to others, and not being afraid of being wrong or asking questions gets you steps closer in everything in life.
The Four Majors I am choosing that relate to cybersecurity are; Criminal Justice, Computer Engineering, Political Science, and Web Programming. Criminal Justice relates to cybersecurity because of the criminal law side hackers create on business’s. Law enforcement gets involved in the process. Computer Engineering has its place because Cybersecurity is done on computers, some colleges offer these two programs integrated. Political Science relates because Executive order 13636 gave cybersecurity a much larger area on the map. The Government can spend outrageous amounts of money into areas of interest altering future outcomes. Web Programming relates in a way that web programmer professionals create software and cybersecurity professions protect said software.
