What I’m most excited about my first semester of college is making friends. My biggest challenge I expect for this semester is time management with assignments. Right now, I don’t have other time commitments but I’m hoping to get a job by the second semester. In high school I volunteered a lot, so hopefully this semester I can do the same thing and meet other people who are passionate about volunteer work My intended major is Nursing, and I chose this major because I’m passionate about directly helping other people. Some skills and abilities I possess that make this a good choice for me is I’m a very empathetic person, and I’m good at helping others. I have no experience in nursing directly, but I have volunteered at retirement homes and helping. My career goals in five years are that I secured a travel nursing job and I go to areas where help is most needed. In ten years, hopefully, I settle down in one place and went back to college to obtain a master’s in nursing. I think the biggest difference between high school and college is that college requires more self-discipline for your studies and content, with high school everything is handed to you. There is a difference between studying and homework. Studying is when you take the time out of your day to learn more about material, even though none of your professors are requiring it, you do it for yourself. Homework is something that’s required, and you must do it. My classes this semester is chemistry, interpreting American history, statistics, sociology, chemistry lab, and intro to health professions. Per week for each class, I will probably study two hours each minimum but will study more if needed. I plan to study in the study rooms in my dorm building. Potential distractions I can anticipate is my phone, to avoid these distractions I can turn it off and place it away. I think the best time to study for me is at night, because that’s when I become very productive. Some specific study techniques that work best for me is taking handwritten notes, highlighting important things, and using flashcards.
