Major and Minor Exploration
Choosing cybersecurity as a major and pairing it with IT is an ideal path for me and my career goals. I want to break into the networking and cloud security fields. Cybersecurity provides me with the framework for risk management, threat analysis, and defense strategies; the IT minor grounds those concepts.
My current studies focus on mastering the essential building blocks of modern infrastructure. I am developing proficiency in Linux operating systems. It gives me the critical system administration skills to configure servers, manage network infrastructure, and navigate cloud environments.
Cybersecurity Everywhere Presentation
Navy Federal Credit Union
In my CYSE 200 class, I went to a presentation from Navy Federal Credit Union about imposter scams. They explained how scammers pretend to be trusted organizations to trick people into giving away personal information, passwords, or money. This connects directly to cybersecurity because it’s an example of social engineering, where attackers target people instead of breaking into systems. The talk showed me that cybersecurity is about teaching people how to spot scams and protect themselves. By learning to recognize fake emails, calls, and texts, we act as a human layer of defense that keeps systems and data safe.
