I got the opportunity to interview a health professional at the Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters. Stephanie Leverett, a Hemodialysis Registered Nurse, works at the Norfolk CHKD. For her job, she has a BSN, BS in Biology, minor in Psychology, and a RN license. She was inspired by being a volunteer in the CHKD Milk Bank and NICU. She also had a desire to serve the patient population. She took the path of becoming an ECMO specialist where she learned more about the CRRT, and she was interested in the machines and mechanism behind it. Her basic roles and responsibilities are assessing fluids, balance removal needs, safe access sites, and reading lab results. The biggest thing that I can take away from this interview is to do it if I have a desire to help people and to be there for people. Emotions can run really high in this field, but if your heart is truly in it, you will do well.
