There are many majors that Old Dominion University offers that relate to cybersecurity. Cybersecurity is such a wide applicable field that its application can easily be implemented in other majors. The first major that relates to cybersecurity is computer engineering. Computer engineering is the design and development of systems based on computers and complex digital logic devices. These system will have devices that have a network or internet connection and will need safeguards in place to keep unauthorized access from occurring. Cybersecurity is meant for just that purpose. If any device is to communicate or have access to a network cybersecurity must be used to insure a secure connection. The second major that relates is cybercrime. Cybercrime is just another aspect of cybersecurity. With the web having such wide implantations criminal investigations often require a digital presence. If a hacker has stolen personal data or committed some digital crime you are going to require someone with not only an IT background but one in law enforcement as well. Another major offered that is directly tied to cybersecurity is cyber operations. This is an interdisciplinary study that encompasses all aspects of cyberspace and its related operations. In order to operate in a digital environment, you must do so with a security contentious mindset. Having a background in cybersecurity is essential in this major. The fourth and last major I would like to relate to cybersecurity is computer science. Computer science often deals with devices like robotics that communicate through networks in order to perform a task or solve a problem. Often any unauthorized access to these networks could Cripple or disable a whole assembly line. The use of cybersecurity to safeguard these corporate assets is widely used in every implantation. These four majors are just a few that work hand in hand with the cybersecurity major.
