The six principles of science can be found and related to cybersecurity. Relativism is becoming more apparent as our dependence on technology incorporates itself into our everyday lives. With people wanting more convenient access to personal information and services the need for cybersecurity will only grow. The growth of technology directly relates to the growing cybersecurity needs. As the need for secure access to technology grows this will push for advances in cybersecurity systems. Objectivity is another principle that can be applied to cybersecurity field. Looking at a system you might have designed and giving an honest fact driven assessment is a key tool is building a better product. Being able to disconnect emotions or personal opinions will allow you to better assess for vulnerabilities. The next principle that relates to cybersecurity is known as parsimony. Being able to take a complex problem and simplify it so anyone can understand is a valuable skill. Taking a complex problem like cybercrime and finding a simple understandable solution can increase insight and knowledge. Empiricism is another principle that can be applied to this field. Finding data through experiments or studies and accessing that data to find a fact-based solution free from personal opinions can be a powerful tool in cybersecurity. When you let the data speak for itself you can often see previously hidden truths. Ethic neutrality is a line that can be easily crossed in cybersecurity. The amount of access given and the personal rights of a user must be carefully balanced. The people’s right to privacy and freedom of speech must be protected as it is their right. While on the other hand protecting users from malicious content is the responsibility of the cybersecurity field. Determinism is the last principle that I would like to relate to cybersecurity. A persons past experiences do guide their judgement and future actions. A person how has had previous negative experiences with cybercrimes will be more security minded when using technology in the future. Also adding stricter punishments for cybercrimes will deter other hackers from committing future crimes by giving a negative personal experience.
