The United States of America and China have one of the most cyber dependent infrastructures of any nations worldwide. The United States has always been at the leading front of integrating technologies and bolsters a wide integration of technology into its critical infrastructure. China is also in a revolution as its population growth and economic power has been a driving factor behind its technological development. This however comes with the challenge of protecting critical infrastructures from cyber threats. Both countries are constantly probing for vulnerabilities in the others military cyber networks. These nations know the importance of information and intelligence on the actions of their enemy. Exploiting these vulnerabilities can give the other a huge advantage on predicting their adversaries’ movements. Critical infrastructure is often the target for hackers. Whether it be from foreign adversaries, internal threats, or corporations looking for an advantage these critical pieces require intensive protection. The United States has critical infrastructures such as fresh water plants, sewage plants, electrical grids, communications, and health care facilities that rely on a secure and reliable network. If these services were to become unreliable or damaged it would have widespread effect of the lives of Americans. These critical infrastructures luckily are well guarded against the cyberthreats that comes with modern technology. China is a growing nation that is looking to broaden its internal critical infrastructure. Chinese infrastructure continues to grow at an alarming rate each year. As its growth continues, it will require a hard look at its cybersecurity needs. As the economic tide shifts towards Chinas favor it will surely need to depict itself as a secure and reliable source of trade. Both nations are continuing to expand their international presence in the world. The competition between these two powers will surely drive cybersecurity to the front lines in the future.
