Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs has five levels that are physiological, safety, belongingness and love, esteem, and self-actualization. I believe that my use of technology has embedded itself into my personal hierarchy of needs. Digital technology gives me access to food though the apps on my phone. This makes life more relaxed as you can control things with minimal effort. I can be at work and control my thermometer through my phone. Technology also aids in our safety. I have a home alarm system that contacts the authorities at a moment’s notice in case of fire, burglary, or even carbon monoxide. This gives a feeling of safety and security over my family’s wellbeing. Through the use of social media distance no longer matters when connecting with family. On deployments I am still able to remain connected to loved ones through social media. Technology has allowed me to continue my education through online classes. This contributes to a feeling of accomplishments as I set an example for my children. With so many opportunities that technology can open for a person, achieving your full potential is more obtainable than ever. You can express yourself through digital means more easily than ever. Technology can truly help achieve one’s full potential.
