- Money– Financial gain is a huge motivator. Money can have a huge effect on a person’s life and is universally sought after.
- Revenge– Revenge is a personal motive that drives many to commit crimes. The need to get even or the feeling that you have been wronged can be a motivator to commit a crime.
- Political– Committing a crime for a political motive can make someone feel like they have a just or noble cause.
- Multiple Reasons– There can be more than one reason that led to committing a crime. A person might have social pressure along with any other of the motives mentioned here.
- Entertainment– The thrill of committing a crime can be addicting. Some people are willing to place themselves in danger or risk high stakes in order to feel a rush.
- Recognition– The need for bragging rights can motivate someone to commit a crime. However, confessing to your crimes is not a smart way to not getting caught.
- Boredom– This is a less likely motive as it’s a very short-lived cure. However idle minds tend to find a way into trouble.
