While rereading blog 1 I realized that I got all the answers that I wanted from this class. I feel that my expectations regarding what I wanted to learn were met. Throughout the course, my attitude about social psychology never changed. This is something I am genuinely interested in and I feel that taking this class only further proved my interest in psychology. This was the first semester I had all online classes except for one and I think that I did successfully in this class and wouldn’t really change anything. I’ve also learned how to manage my time better due to how many assignments I would have for this class. I became better organized because I was forced to write all the assignments down in order to never miss one. I feel that skill will definitely come in handy when it comes to the professional workplace.

The top three things I have learned during this course would be what are Heuristics, The different types of love styles and what type of lover I am, and what type of student I am and how well my self-efficacy is. In blog 7 we talked about self-regulation and emotional intelligence. I can relate these two topics to an assignment we did about Michael Richards and how he went on a racist tirade. It was clear that Michael Richards did not have healthy emotional intelligence or self-regulation because he was not able to control his emotions. I have learned about self-efficacy in both social psychology as well as industrial-organizational psychology and how it can benefit us as students and workers.

Prior to reading the article about mating, I was aware of how sexual conflict occurs within relationships but this also informed me a lot. I learned that the reason this happens is due to men and women having different genes that affect their sexual interests. Men would most likely rather just be physical with no strings attached and women are less likely to want no emotions involved. This creates what is called sexual conflict which also ties to many more reasons men and women get into conflicts. Men will often try to manipulate women, take advantage of and gaslight. Men also may not listen to or take women’s feelings into consideration at times. Women often tend to overthink and assume. Women also tend to nag because of how much they care due to the motherly nature that women have. Both genders also do little things like men playing video games and not giving attention or women hanging out with friends too much instead of giving attention.

Self-regulation is very important in order to have an effective and healthy emotional intelligence. Self-regulation is basically being able to control your emotions and thoughts in order to live a healthy and successful life. Emotional intelligence is the ability to be aware of your emotions and being able to control as well as express them.
I would say I best display emotional intelligence by being able to take other people’s feelings into consideration and I try to recognize other’s emotions as best as I can.

Watching Jean Kilbourne discuss how women in advertising have changed over the last 20 years made me feel angered but not shocked at all. It made me feel angry to know that the majority of women are portrayed nowadays and how many people can get away with doing it but it’s not shocking because of how long it has been going on. These advertisements shown in the video do nothing but promote girls, especially younger ones, into thinking they have to look, act, or dress a certain way and its time they know that that’s not what needs to happen. the saddest part is that even I go through times when I see an ad of someone very pretty and think to myself “why don’t I look like that” and that is something I have worked on trying not to feel and that I think everyone should work on.

Picture A: This advertisement shows what a credible source looks like. This ad gives credibility because of the fact that there are people dressed in white lab coats and a woman wearing a suit. This leads to the thought that these people are experts at hand who have experience in the field and are to be trusted with advertising this product.

Picture B: This advertisement is a not credible source because we don’t actually know if Proactiv ever really helped Justin Bieber’s skin. All we know is he held a bottle of the product up for a camera and said it was his lifesaver. we have no actual proof that he even uses Proactiv at all therefor it is not credible.

Picture C: This advertisement is an example of an attractive source. A lot of the times when companies put people that are very well known celebrities on advertisements the product that they are trying to sell is usually seen as something someone would want to buy. For Rihanna’s makeup line “Fenty” she puts herself as well as many other women wearing her makeup on the advertisements and shows how they are all glowing even though they all look very different. From my experience, it did make me go out and try her products and I was not disappointed at all.

I wasn’t sure what to expect from this exam because it was my first time taking an exam for Professor Younkin. I think it went smooth because I used all the tools that were accessible to me including the review sheet that I filled out. Filling the review sheet out helped me with my studying process because I feel that it helped to refresh my memory and help me go over key topics, along with reviewing different modules and their PowerPoints. I think that I will continue to study and review like this because it helped me get a 94 percent on this exam.

The type of student I think I am would be described as a partial bookworm/ procrastinator. On a weekly basis, you can always find me at the library, I enjoy doing work and studying there rather than at home in my room because I find its easier for me to concentrate in there. I try to get my work done as diligently as possible but at times it’s hard for me to not procrastinate when I have a lot on my plate which is something I need to work on.
My confidence level as a student has grown over the years and has become high. Coming into college I didn’t have the most confidence in myself because I questioned a lot but as time went by i started forming habits that helped me throughout my school years. Simply just going to the library to get work done rather than sit in my room and get distracted has helped boost my confidence as a student. I think really getting myself to stop procrastinating by using the resources around me that ODU has such as free tutoring will bring my confidence level to a max.
I think my self-efficacy score matches up with my task accomplishments. I got a score of 33 and by looking at the scale it showed me a lot about myself as a student. It made me aware of what I am capable of as a student.

When I first read the syllabus the course objectives caught my eye. I feel like I’ve always had questions in the back of my mind that I wanted answers to regarding social psychology, and I feel that this course will provide me with those answers. I wonder about social psychology in the aspect through which people perceive things individually and in groups. I think this course will give me more insight into what makes people act a certain way during relationships with friends, strangers, and significant others. I am hoping that this course will help me to understand why people act the way they do at times and how people let other humans affect them in different ways. I would also like to be able to translate what I learn from this class into the real world and my relationships in it.

I chose this picture because I felt that it represents social psychology well. We don’t realize how much a small interaction with a person can actually affect somebody and how being surrounded by certain people can change the way you act or think about things.
