My biggest expectations for this course are to be able to take away information I can use in the future, and be offered the opportunity to continue to grow as a student. I hope to learn new skills as a student in this class, and hope to be able to apply the information learned to my everyday life. One thing I know I am going to need to be very conscious of to succeed in this class is time management. One of my biggest flaws as a student is being a procrastinator, and for this class I am working hard on working ahead and not waiting til the last minute.

First Chapters of Notes

This image is able to represent my first couple attempts of the process of me trying to find an effective note and annotating style. Some big take aways from chapter one and two would be how relatable the information is. For example, I’ve been aware my brain goes through a process when debating a choice, but now I can give those processes a name, heuristics.

General Self Efficacy Scale Results

My mean result after completing the survey was 2.9. After completing the GSE, I am able to conclude a few things about what kind of student I am. The questions asked also gave me insight on to some possible contributing factors in my results as all. For starters, based strictly off of my number results, I can conclude I am slightly above average in self efficacy, which leads me conclude I am an average student. Before going through an answering the questions, I would have agreed with the statement of being an average student. My work habits and ethic get me things done successfully, but do not show case my best work. One of my biggest weakness as a student is how easily I procrastinate work. After reading through the questions, like mentioned above I was able to make some assumptions as to what contributes to my score. For example, I think a lot of environmental factors along with some personality traits contribute to my work ethic and how I preform as a student, including the effort put in as a student.

More often than not, whenever I hear a song playing I associate it with a person or memory. I strongly agree with the idea of songs being able to represent a relationship. I’ve realized that over time, these song associations don’t just correlate with the person and or memory but also an emotion too. I notice that while in a relationship I might think of the person more often while listening to love and pop songs, whereas if we were to break up then I might think of that person more when hearing a sad, emotional song. My happier memories correlate with more up beat songs, and vise versa with my less happy moments.

When I hear the songs, “Three Little Birds”, by Bob Marley, and “Dancing Queen”, by ABBA, I instantly think of my parents. Something about the beat, and vibe the song gives me is so similar to the vibes my parents give me. The songs give me a comforting feeling, and remind me of home. The song, “Ridin'”, by Chamillionare reminds me of my dad. I have vivid childhood memories riding around in his lowered pick up truck with the windows down while listening to this song with my dad. The song takes me back in time, and is also very comforting with memories. Because these memories are happier memories, the songs are more up beat. The song “Hardest to love”, by The Weekend reminds me of my boyfriend and my relationship. Not necessarily the relationship in general, but more so my role in the relationship. The song is slower song with a light beat, which is fitting for the representation because the topic is a more sensitive topic. The songs, “Hot Shower”, by Chance the Rapper and “Feel no ways”, by Drake make me vividly think of my first two years as a college student. The lyrics but also genre and tempo are accurate representations of the memories and emotions.

Reliable Advertisement: Image A

Image A is an accurate picture of a reliable advertisement. The photo is straight forward an includes facts rather than opinions, already making it seem reliable. Having a company such as, “The Real Cost”, listed on the photo, also makes the campaign more credible. This photo photo in general is backed by well known facts and if were seen by a regular person, they probably would’t be googling the accuracy of the statements in the picture.

Attractive Advertisment: Image B

Image B is lit up with colors and showcases an attractive female on the front, surrounding the brand being promoted. This ad is visually and ascetically pleasing, making it fall under the category of an attractive advertisement. While looking at this image you almost get too lost in the visuals to connect them to the purpose. Someone who sees the ad may associate the product with this colorful and mood lifting scene created. The ad is both reliable and unreliable, but mainly showcases visual appeal.

Unreliable Advertisement: Image C

Image C is very unreliable, there is nothing represented with the opinion. If one were to see this photo, they would have quite a few questions, which one would not have with a more credible photo. The image lacks an author or any credit to whose idea this is, and is stated as an opinion. Although some may agree with the idea presented, it can also be easily argued.

My initial reaction to the ted talk about women representation in media was not very concerning. Being a women I deal with these problems everyday, and growing up these are things that I’m made aware of. I used to see skinny pretty girls on tv and my mom used to tell me that not even they actually looked like that. Growing up as a women comes along with this sexual image. Media has begun to target men with this visual illusion, but women have always been suffering. I hope that one day the public can be desensitized to women sexuality. Below are five photos of women who are poorly photoshopped to be something that they are not, all of these ads would have been so much more appealing unedited and natural.

In my opinion there is a strong connection between self regulation and emotional intelligence. Emotional intelligence is really important for judging your overall emotional wellbeing and helps you determine how to move forward so that your’e able to be the healthiest version of yourself. Once you become aware of your own emotional intelligence, you can then master the idea of regulating your own emotions and feelings. In order to start working on this regulation, you first have to be self aware, and this is how they work together. Both things are important to practice, and with time you’ll feel better in different ways.

The following drawing is able to represent a few emotions one might feel and the importance of taking these emotions and regulating them, so it not only highlights self regulation but also emotional intelligence too.

The following article about sexual conflict definitely makes you think a little deeper about the two different genders than you would have before. To me the bigger idea of the whole article is that yes, there’s always going to be people who don’t agree with you and everyone else, but that doesn’t necessarily have to do with the gender associated with the parties involved. I do think that there are statistics proving that men are more likely to do something over women, but also vise versa. I think there are also pretty standardized gender stereotypes, but at the end of the day you can disagree with anyone, it’s how you react after the disagreement that gauges what happens next. My illustration below highlights the stereotype of the women leaving her make-up everywhere, and the man leaves his dishes all over the counter. These are gender defined, and relate to the article being referenced.

Overall, this portfolio has allowed me to grab the bigger picture of concepts taught in this class and apply them to my own life. The top three assignments that really in-capture this would be blogs two, three, and seven. Blogs two and three were very “relatable”, allowing me to fully understand what I was talking about and even learning. Blog two taught me a lot about my relationships and how I navigate my love life, it was eye opening, and something I will take into consideration in the future. Blog three was really about something I love, music, making it an easy thing to relate to. Before the assignment I never realized the correlation, now I have a different perspective on music and moods. Blog seven was big for me because I think it’s a key concept when studying psychology and could be seen as a base building block. This is also relatable which makes the information more interesting and intriguing to learn about.

I notice that a lot of the assignments overlapped in the class, strictly due to the fact of being about humans and their interactions. I think without a basic psychology understanding you’re limited to what you can learn. This class required that basic understanding, but allowed me to apply it to real life situations.

With the intentions of majoring in psychology here at ODU, a lot of the information in the class overlapped with my other classes. I also noticed a connect between the information I am learning in some communication classes with some of my psychology classes. I think this is because they both are a type of study of the human.

The best way to capture my process of viewing the information I learned in the class was through this whole eportfolio assignment. I spent a lot of time rereading through my blogs and immediately being about to remember the information we were learning in class. This whole assignment really is a tool I will use moving forward and allowed me to have a space to collect my findings in this class.

Blog Ten

Looking back at my very first blog post for this class I immediately notice that it’s short and not much depth to it. My expectations were met and I get set a goal for myself at the beginning, and was able to hold myself to that. I wanted to be able to takeaway usual information from this class, even information that’s applicable to my everyday life. I also wanted to continue to grow as a student. This class allowed me to do that I think partly because it was asynchronous and it pushed me to set boundaries for myself. My main goal for not only this class but my other classes as well was to stay from getting behind in my work. I easily get overwhelmed and this semester I was even able to stay ahead with some things. I feel very accomplished this semester, and would recommend this class to anyone!

The best way I could represent how I completed this blog would be to cite the source I used, my own first blog.
