Self regulation is the ability to understand your behavior, reactions, and feelings to things happening around you. Emotional intelligence is the ability to understand, use, and manage your emotions in positive ways. After doing some research on Self regulation and Emotional intelligence, I think that they go hand and hand with each other. To be proficient at one or another you have to know about both. As a former college athlete, having emotional intelligence is important because when doing something at a high level where your testosterone levels can get high, it is important to make sure that your emotions do not get the best of you. As letting your emotions run wild can cause you to do something irrational or out of character. I have always been taught that it is good to have emotion but to make sure that you can separate your emotions from your thoughts and the way that you think. When thinking with emotions it can cause you to not think of the repercussions of your actions. The way I work on my EQ is to take a step back from a situation and think on what could I have done better before I let rage or some other emotion take over my thought process.
