Design
This section demonstrates my ability to incorporate both rhetorical theory and best design practices to create effective visual media.
To the left is the first flyer I ever created. It was an assignment for ENGL 307T: Digital Writing. This assignment taught me how to use Canva and design principles like informational hierarchy, contrast, color theory, and typography. I designed the flyer on my own without any of the templates available in Canva.
This assignment also taught me to analyze the rhetorical situation to target and create media for specific audiences for specific purposes.
After I turned this assignment in, my professor urged me to send this flyer to the Hope House to see if they’d like to use it.
I created these flyers for a Ph.D. student’s study on racial discrimination. This artifact taught me to communicate with stakeholders about a project’s expectations. In total, I had designed seven flyers (displayed are the two best) because I didn’t know exactly what the Ph.D. student wanted. After completing work for her, she asked me to edit the typography to align with the lab the study was associated with. If I had asked clarifying questions from the start, I would not have to do re-work.

This is a paper I produced for ENGL 439: Writing in Digital Spaces where I analyzed the user interface (UI) for the Donate Life CT homepage and then applied design principles to redesign the UI to provide it with a more effective informational hierarchy. The redesign was based on UI testing and aimed to accommodate the needs of the target audiences.
