My Plan

At Old Dominion University, I am currently pursuing the nursing undergraduate program and admittance to the bachelors of science in nursing program. I want to use this four-year degree to work as a nurse at a hospital. Hopefully, the diverse applications of this degree will keep my future open to different paths in the medical field while gaining experience in the medical field and earning a living wage. Immediately after earning my bachelors degree, I intend to apply for a master’s program to become a family nurse practitioner, a veterinary graduate degree, and a medical graduate degree. I would most like to become a veterinarian so that I can work with conservation efforts for exotic and endangered animals. If I am not admitted to any veterinary program, though, I intend to go to the medical field with humans and work as a specialized surgeon, hopefully in neonatal surgery. However, both of these degree programs are expensive and time consuming. Should I decide that I cannot afford medical or veterinary school or would like to prioritize a family over my career, I will also keep a master’s program available for myself.

As of now, I have no experience in nursing and have a very thin resume towards certifications and other desirable traits for nurses. I am adult and pediatric certified for CPR, AED resuscitation, and first aid. I have also attended Greendot bystander training and volunteered at the on-campus food pantry for monarch students and staff in the past semester. This summer, I intend to earn a nursing assistant certification and to work in a clerical position at a medical office to build my healthcare experiences.
