About Me

Welcome to My ePortfolio

Hello! I’m Mark Prather, and this ePortfolio is a window into my journey as both a student and a professional. Here, I aim to share not just my academic achievements but also my personal and professional growth and interests.

A Bit About Me:

  • Background: Born and raised in Tacoma, WA, I’ve transitioned from a long, distinguished career as a helicopter pilot in both military and civilian sectors, which spanned nearly 20 years, into a new passion for Cybersecurity. My academic path has taken me from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, where I earned a Bachelor of Science in Professional Aeronautics, to Old Dominion University, where I am currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity.
  • Academic Goals: My aim is to use my rich professional experience and newly acquired knowledge in Cybersecurity to embark on a fresh career path. I am particularly drawn to areas like Cyber Defense and Systems Security.
  • Personal Interests: When I’m not delving into cybersecurity or studying, I enjoy playing golf and spending quality time with my two young children. These hobbies not only provide a balance to my life but also enhance my problem-solving and creative skills, which I apply in both my professional and academic endeavors.

Certifications:

  • Certified Rotary Wing Pilot with Commercial and Instrument certifications
  • Past certification as an Emergency Medical Technician – Basic
  • Past certification as a Wildland Firefighter
  • Past certification as Real Estate Agent

Looking Forward:

I am committed to lifelong learning and growth, whether it’s through hands-on projects like working on my truck or house, or through academic pursuits like learning to code or deepening my understanding of Cybersecurity. I’m eager to contribute to the Cybersecurity community, make a meaningful impact, and continue to evolve professionally. Thank you for taking the time to explore my ePortfolio. I’m looking forward to engaging with you further.
