Quick Look Inside Cyberbullying and Social and Technological Implementations
Introduction
This is a review of an article titled “Impact of Cyber-Victimization’s on Anger and Frustration: Role of AI, E-Governance and Cyberbullying Coping,” It is located in Vol 18 Issue 1 of the International Journal of Cyber Criminology. It was published for the periods of January to June 2024. The main premise of the article was the impact of cyber-victimization on anger and frustration, in addition, how artificial intelligence (AI) and E-Governance can play a role in reducing or preventing cyberbullying.
Data
The quantitative research study was conducted in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and focused on the growing challenges of cyber threats to professionals. It also researched how technology and institutional solutions can help reduce the occurrence of cyberbullying and how E-Governance can play a role in helping these people cope with the negative consequences of cyberbullying. After conducting a study using a sample size of 244 employees working in different departments of Saudi Arabia. The results show that cyber-victimization played a significant role in anger and frustration (Aliane & Mirzaliev, 2024).
After the study was concluded, Aliane and Mirzaliev (2024) aimed to answer the following questions.
- To what extent does cyber-victimization influence anger and frustration among victims?
- What is the mediation role of AI in cybersecurity in reducing the emotional impacts of cyber-victimization?
- To what extent does e-governance mediate the relationship between cyber-victimization and emotional distress?
- How much do coping strategies moderate the effects of cyber-victimization on the emotional outcomes?
Social Sciences
There are a few social science principles related to this article, the first being Sociology. Sociology is the study of social life, social behaviors and social institutions. The way in which this article relates is the whole premise is it is a social study. Studying the way, we interact with each other. In question numbers one and four have a lot to do with a study of social interaction and how it affects us negatively. Another way this writing intersects into social science is through criminology. I mean to say, not everyone who commits cyber-bullying is a criminal, some of the outcomes that this kind of behavior can cause to the victim can cause irreparable damage to their mental, physical health and reputation (Aliane & Mirzaliev, 2024). These consequences can lead to poor performance, escalated bullying, and sometimes physical altercations or suicide. Especially from our marginalized groups like children. Now, going into question four, we are studying the psychological effects of negative social interactions. Like sociology, psychology helps us with how we react to these types of cyberbullying events. Are we angry? Are we frustrated? Well, based on this study, the data supports that hypothesis.
We’ve discussed many topics in class thus far. I know I brought up cyberbullying, cyber-victimization, especially with our young people. With social media, email, work chat groups, people feel disconnected from others, and this can really create an interaction that is no longer personal. People feel emboldened to say whatever they want when it’s through the internet. My generation called it the “telephone tough guy” and the internet, where you don’t hear reactions or voice tones, communication online can be very difficult for some and can cause misunderstandings as well actual bullying.
Technology
So this article is trying to formalize a perceived increase in cyber related bullying and how we can potentially use technology like AI or E-Governance to help reduce or eliminate occurrences of this activity and possibly provide solutions to prevent certain behavior from even getting in front of certain people, AI can filter certain key words, it could be used in organization wide communication and help reduce certain occurrences of words and also phrases that can be offensive (Aliane & Mirzaliev, 2024). This type of technology can not only be used in professional environments but to many of our social interacts. If I don’t want to hear certain languages or don’t want my child to hear certain languages, I can use AI. Now here is where the governance pieces because how are we going to force certain organizations to implement this. Also should it be mandatory? These types of programs cost money and sometimes organizations would rather pay the court settlements than implement them.
Conclusion
The overall societal contributions of the study certainly outline the importance of type of harm that can be done to people experiencing cyber-bullying. There are tools out there that we can implement. We can push originations into implementing these things because it can affect not only an organization’s workforce but also the organization itself. If it’s a school, government office or large corporations. Coming up great ideas is what some of these types of articles spark. Great overall.
