Explain how the principles of science relate to cybersecurity.

The principles of science, such as relativism, objectivity, parsimony, empiricism, ethical neutrality, and determinism, will relate to cybersecurity because they have provided a certain framework for understanding and addressing security challenges. For example, relativism will help one consider how changes in technology influence broader systems within a society, such as economic and political behaviors, which subsequently affect cybersecurity. Objectivity ensures that when cybersecurity researchers investigate topics like cybercrime, they remain free from bias; looking for evidence-based solutions instead of opinions. Parsimony would suggest that such explanations, in this case, why people commit cybercrimes, should be reduced to their most basic form to allow findings to become actionable and digestible. Empiricism would stipulate that the research must be based on observable and measurable data; strategy in cybersecurity is reality-based and not speculative. Finally, determinism enables researchers to investigate how prior events and behaviors shape cybersecurity outcomes, helping find the root causes of security breaches and inform preventive measures. Using these scientific principles, cybersecurity professionals can develop robust strategies to address both technical and human vulnerabilities.
