CYSE 200T: Journal Entry #1

I am interested in cybersecurity technology for several reasons. First, it is a huge field that is continuously growing. There are always new threats to address which means new things to learn. It is never stagnant, and so, to me, that means it remains interesting. It also intersects with several other disciplines which also increases my interest factor. Cybersecurity has so many facets to consider: social, psychological, philosophical, engineering, business, law, criminological, and more. It has applications and repercussions for individuals, businesses, and governments. No one is immune to cybersecurity, and it applies to everyone.

Additionally, there is a wide range of methods to continue my education once I have completed my degree. There are individual classes, webinars, and a plethora of certificates to continue learning, gaining new skills, and specializing once I am done with college. These all provide me with opportunities to not only better myself and my knowledge but also to make me more valuable to a potential employer.

Along a similar line of thought, cybersecurity is also a practical field of study for me. As I previously mentioned, it is a growing field. There are so many job openings in various areas of the cybersecurity field, which means that as long as I work hard and continue to learn and stay up to date with cybersecurity changes, I will always be able to find a job.

Finally, cybersecurity plays into my skillset very well. I am excellent at critical thinking, problem-solving, and tasks that require attention to detail. Cybersecurity jobs often use these skills. It can utilize investigative skills and outside-the-box thinking as well as data analysis, pattern recognition, and information processing. These are all areas that align with my aptitudes. I believe those areas where interests and skills align make great careers. I want a career that I can grow with and excel at, and I think a cybersecurity job would provide that for me.
