Skills

This page provides artifacts showcasing some of the skills I have gained. Most of these artifacts are taken from the course of my studies during ODU but some of them are from other parts of my life experience.

Technical

Technical skills are the backbone of a career in cybersecurity. They are absolutely essential and cannot be overlooked when presenting yourself as ready to take on the challenges of the field. These artifacts show some of the most important skills I have gained during the course of my studies.

This Lab shows how I set up a client-server chat using Python.

This Lab shows shell scripts I wrote using Linux.

This Lab shows how I was able to trace and sniff traffic to identify security concerns on a network.

Communication

Communication is essential in many parts of the cybersecurity field. You must have excellent communication skills to speak with clients, interact with colleagues, collaborate on projects, and demonstrate your knowledge and findings in a clear and precise manner. Communication skills include both speaking writing in a compelling manner. The artifacts I chose demonstrate all these facets of communication.

This Spanish presentation about Old Dominion shows my presentation skills.

This persuasive essay demonstrates my written communication skills as I argue the need for more security awareness trainers in various settings and industries.

This paper provides another example of written communication and displays how I can effectively present my knowledge of advanced persistent threats.

Critical Thinking

Critical thinking is another vital skill to have in the cybersecurity field. It is not enough to be able to follow step-by-step directions. Sometimes there are no directions, and you have to figure something out yourself. Sometimes the directions don’t make sense, and you only realize this if you stop and think about it first. Sometimes problems can be so complex that you have to break them down into each subproblem, analyze every part, and put them back together to make the big picture. The artifacts I chose demonstrate that I have the critical thinking skills necessary to perform these tasks and more, making sure I am successful in the cybersecurity field.

This paper shows my thoughts on the impact that cybersecurity infrastructure has on society.
