How has cyber technology created opportunities for workplace deviance?
Cyber technology has created workplace deviance to occur more often in many different ways. Workplace deviance can be defined as, “described as the deliberate desire to cause harm to an organization – more specifically, a workplace.” As technology advances and more people intend to use in it different ways, psychology shows the way people interact with one another does change. With that being said, technology has its negative effects on people who use it to post their whole life. For example, workplace deviance may be represented by an employee who is angry with their boss and starts posting it all over the internet such as Facebook or other social media outlooks. Workplace deviance is more likely to occur regardless of the cyber technology industry since deviation can be seen easier on the internet rather than face to face, which is more difficult to detect. The misuse of communication with technology in the workplace has increased tremendously as a result of the advancement of cyber technology. Workplace deviance begins with modest misbehavior and can quickly develop to severe effects that can hurt an enterprise. Due to a lack of information, many businesses don’t have the best security procedures. Employees are prone to breaking policies because their employers do not give them the correct information. Immoderate training and repeating exercises on security awareness will dramatically reduce workplace misbehavior if higher-ups implement them. With all of this being said, cyber technology has created workplace deviance to occur more often. Cyber technology, for granted anything that has to do with technology, makes it easier to get away with a lot of things, workplace deviance at the top of that list. Cyber technology has greatly affected the workplace in both positive and negative lights but when it comes to workplace deviance it has negative effects on the business and employees.
