There is a number of ways to ensure your computer is safe. Maintaining the security of your computer helps you avoid malware and direct hacking attempts aimed at stealing your personal information. First and foremost, using a firewall is extremely important. A firewall is a form of protection and security for your computer. This method of security is a hardware or software connected to your device that filters out any sketchy information or stuff that is coming through on your device. Furthermore, it is extremely important to secure your computer by making sure you have backups of your information. The point of backups is to have an extra copy of your information. Regular backups of data prepare you in case something happens to the original version. For example, being an apple user I use iCloud as a form of backup. Every day my new information gets backed up into the iCloud. A good backup plan consists of backing up your information daily to assure you are up to date with information on your device. Another way you can tell if your computer is safe is by using antivirus software, this will ensure that a higher level of security is placed on your computer. Just by maintaining its updates and keeping it current will protect your computer. Also not opening anything suspicious such as popups. Popups occur more frequently than thought, they can be in your email, text messages, on a website you’re using, and can even pop up as a virus warning. Suspicious activity can be seen in different ways. Although maintaining the cleanliness of your computer by exiting out of browsers, making sure one is browsing the web safely, not using external devices unless they’re your own, downloading antivirus software, etc. There are many ways to ensure your computer is safe, but the main one is to ensure the stuff on your computer is what you downloaded and nothing else.
