E-Portfolio #2

There are a few majors at ODU that can be in comparison with cyber security. Nothing is exactly the same as cybersecurity but will be similar in some ways. The first major is criminal justice. The criminal justice major deals with the understanding of three main elements of the justice system: the courts, policing, and corrections. The criminal justice major involves research methods that focus on criminology, criminological theory, and the psychology behind criminal behavior. This relates to cybersecurity because both majors are dealing with criminals in some way or another. Furthermore, these two majors combined allow students to gain knowledge on social behavior, policy, and how legal rules may affect cybersecurity while utilizing social sciences to understand, predict and explain the crimes occurring. The next major that can be related to cybersecurity in computer science. This major focuses on learning the basic mathematics, logic, engineering, and experimental aspects of the major. This can be related to cybersecurity because cyber security is a subfield of computer science. People in cyber security need to have an understanding of computers and network security. Cybercrime is another major that is in relation to cybersecurity. Cybercrime is an interdisciplinary approach to criminology, cyber security, and information technology. This major must learn programming and technical skills which can be related to the purpose of cyber security. Finally, another major similar to cybersecurity is psychology. The reason being is that we must learn and know the motive of the people committing cybercrimes. Many cybercrimes also fall under the category of cybersecurity crimes. To wrap all of this together, cybersecurity can be related to an abundance of different majors, there are a few other majors that can be related as well. Cyber security can be seen as an interdisciplinary approach due to the fact that it is related to so many different fields of study.
