Sport Journal Blog Prompt #3

My time in this sports comm class was great, I think some of my biggest takeaways from the course was connections in the industry are key to moving forward. This connection can be seen with the penpal assignment that we had done throughout the semester. The connections made in that assignment were meant to connect with someone in our sports industry and I chose a beat writer for the panthers. The reporter responded on occasion and answered a lot of questions I had for him, this is something that rounds back to what i learned and it all comes back … Continue reading Sport Journal Blog Prompt #3

The Quest

As I continued to communicate with Mr.Williams over the past couple of weeks, I learned a lot more about the race and how busy life is once the season gets going. Mr. Williams has been very busy with day to day tasks as reporter for the Panthers, by the amount he tweets and his always at the facility the life is busy. Mr. Williams has told me a lot of different tips and information to remember and his number one thing he emphasized was that this career becomes your life. Another thing he told me was that capturing the story … Continue reading The Quest

One NBA team walks a generation follows

In the 2020 playoffs, the NBA had gone through massive changes switching to their bubble playoff method in an attempt to combat the pandemic. The pandemic had sent the world into a lockdown and the US was tested with major civil unrest amongst the nation. One specific incident was the tragic shooting of Jacob Blake, in response multiple players from the Milwaukee Bucks walked out of the game in response to the shooting. George Hill, point guard for the Bucks at the time was the leader of the walk out believing it was their responsibility to make a statement. Instead … Continue reading One NBA team walks a generation follows

Don’t Be the Weakest LinkedIn

In this assignment, I made an infographic on some of the information I gathered from Ellis Williams. Mr. Williams is a beat reporter for the Carolina Panthers having reported with the team since 2021 and reporting in the industry for another 5 with a variety of teams. He and I talked for a while and he gave me a lot of important and personal information that would help students like myself break into that barrier of the sports industry. He emphasized many different talking points in our discussion, this infographic are different things I think that should be taken away … Continue reading Don’t Be the Weakest LinkedIn

Social Media Persona

This is the sad twitter account of a diehard New York Giants fan who is trying to find the willpower to continue to support his team. I was trying to resemble a suffering Giants fan, for years Giants fans have had to sit back and watch as our team performs subpar. I wanted Giants fans to feel that they are not alone in the suffering, I wanted to post a couple pictures of memes that just showed the pain Giants fans go through watching the team play. The idea is to post things that show what it’s like being disappointed … Continue reading Social Media Persona

Sport Journal Blog Prompt #1

The way I watch sports has changed over the past 5 years. I used to try and watch every game on TV and catch everything on cable. As time passes though life has become a lot more busy and the way I watch sports has shifted to streaming it more now. I can no longer sit down and watch games all the way through, highlights were made for us to watch the games’ most exciting moments. Now I stream most of the games and highlights between the NBA and the NFL; I think streaming is a much better offer because … Continue reading Sport Journal Blog Prompt #1

Making a Connection

When I was deciding who to reach out too, I wanted to connect with a sports reporter, so I chose Ellis L. Williams a beat reporter for the Carolina Panthers. Ellis Williams grew up in Minnesota and went to school for journalism at UW-Eau Claire. I just found his twitter and sent a message, I also seen his LinkedIn to get a little bit more information. Mr. Williams responded to me within the day accepting the task with being my penpal connection. I tried to come off as someone just trying to learn and get some tips for how to … Continue reading Making a Connection
