- After watching the video, write a journal entry about how you think the media influences our understanding about cybersecurity
Upon watching the video, I would say that the media influences our understanding about cybersecurity by tapping into our imagination. It will exaggerate on things that are not real to encourage the audience to keep watching, encouraging them to believe actions and statements to be true. Unless you are familiar with cybersecurity then the observer wouldn’t know whether the terms and actions that are being used are real or false. The audience has a false sense of security upon discovery of cybersecurity threats such as just unplugging their laptops, or desktops believing that will fix the problem. If anything, I would think that more of these movies would make the audience weary and more cautious with all the suspected vulnerabilities, threats and exposures that are introduced in the movies may it be real or movie jargon. At the same time, I do appreciate the fact that the media took the time not only using real time cybersecurity events, but actual cybersecurity terms and actions.
