I believe the questions that were provided on the scale support the information given inside of the video. Being preoccupied with social media will make one vulnerable and the way the main character “Dave” was using it even more so. As he was taking photos to post online, being unaware that his log in information was not just out in the open but being captured in the photo.

I would describe the topics in the scale very similar to those that could be used when dealing with subjects that are co-dependent or addicted. The descriptors are like what some people go through when they are addicted and the effects of those distractions. I think the patterns are different across the world, as each cultural value is different.

In specifically, cybersecurity, the social group may not have awareness, training and regular policy and procedures set in place in their organizations. While watching the video provided the social norm of that organization was to allow “Dave” to write down his password, use social media while at work and even during meetings. There were no values of privacy, and the only reprimand seemed to come when the supervisor or boss became victim to a cyber offense. If there had been corrective measures of “Daves’” behavior prior, then the phishing email could have been avoided. Across the world, it is the tolerance or intolerance response to cybersecurity that makes different patterns and groups hold different values and beliefs.

Complete the Social Media Disorder scale Download Social Media Disorder scale. or please find the attachment here: Social Media Disorder Scale-1.pdfDownload Social Media Disorder Scale-1.pdf How did you score? What do you think about the items in the scale? Why do you think that different patterns are found across the world?
