Unfortunately, no one attended our presentation time slot, so we were not able to present at all. I’m not really sure why none of the students signed up for our blood typing presentation but I can assume it was because our topic was either not interesting enough or was too difficult to understand.
Our presentation was on blood typing and it went over the basics of what the different blood types are and how people are assigned a blood type which covered punnet squares so we also needed to go over that topic as well.
Our presentation had a variety of colors and pictures so we tried to make it as interesting as possible but blood typing is just not an interesting enough topic for high school students especially when they do not cover any of that in their curriculum nor do they ever talk about it in their biology-based classes. I personally believe if someone signed up for our presentation they would have enjoyed it and gained some new knowledge on the topic.
Doing this service-learning project was not a bad experience! I think it’s a very beneficial project to introduce new science-based topics to younger students so that they gain the motivation to further their studies in whatever topic is taught to them and possibly introduce them to a future career option.
