It is important to be able to identify primary sources and review
articles because we want to have the most accurate information whenever we do need to complete
research articles so that our research has accurate information.
A primary source is a source that closely resonates with the original experience or evidence
being presented; meaning it was written by someone who was a witness to said experience
or evidence. Besides research articles, a primary source can also be considered a historical
artifact like a note, photo, or diary. A primary source for a scientific article would be
anything that is an original publication of new discoveries or theories written by the
individual producing the data. Most if not all primary sources are peer-reviewed to ensure
the best information is being published.
Review articles do not give detail of the original research that was conducted by the author,
instead, the author of the review article gives an in-depth overview of the subject of the
article by looking over older published articles that relate to the topic. These types of
articles determine whether the outcome of the chosen study is similar and if they are not
similar they attempt to explain the conflicting results. Review articles are also able to
present current knowledge and understanding of the specific topic.
2
After someone writes and submits an article to a research platform the article must undergo a series
of peer reviews. The peer-review process refers to any article that has been read by experts
in the same field of said study; normally with edits. The process consists of a first review
and a final review where the said article is accepted and published. During the first review,
the reviewing team decides whether or not the submitted article fits both the journal subject
matter and its editorial platform. Submissions that make it past the first peer reviews go to a
journal editor and a team of interviewers that comment on the validity of the submitted
article and identify any error in the article. The article is also judged by evaluating the
importance of the findings and research.
The Identification of a new human coronavirus is a research article written about a fourth human
coronavirus that was extracted from a 7-month-old. The epidemiology and pathogenesis of
coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak are two research articles written about how
covid was spread around a wet market in Wuhan China. The two articles are both very
informative but one of them is a primary source and the other is a review article.
Identification of a new human coronavirus is the primary source because the article was
written by the researchers conducting the experiments which means it was written by
someone who was a part of the original experince. The epidemiology and pathogenesis of
coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak is the review article because the article covers
information about the spread of covid in China. The article was written by researchers who
had gathered information regarding the subject instead of being a part of the actual
experience in China<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
Adriana MercedesJanet Rinehart-KimWriting assignment #113\/09\/2021Writing assignment #1In this article, we will go over the definition of a primary source and a review article; aswell as the peer-review process.
