My name is Stephanie Broussard and I am a senior at Old Dominion University. My goals for attending ODU are to graduate with a Mechanical Engineering Technology major and to gather useful experiences along the way to aid my efforts in future jobs.
The study of fluid mechanics is very important in engineering. In order to be a well rounded engineer I need to make sure I understand it well, along with being able to use it properly whether it be in another class or a job.
As I mentioned it is important to be knowledgeable about a lot of aspects in engineering. There will be a lot of problems that I will face when working on a job, so I must be able to handle most of them. One being fluid mechanics. I might design a system one day that will require me to know how to calculate pressure at certain points or what the flow rate will be, or what the affects of water hammer will have on a pipe. All of these scenarios could happen when working, so learning and understanding fluid mechanics is a must.
