I am pursuing a Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology from ODU because I want to have a positive impact on the world. Taking Thermal Applications is a degree requirement, so it is essential that I pass and fully absorb the teachings of this class in order to ensure my success here at ODU and in my future career as an engineer. I hope that someday, my accomplishments will include working in the aerospace industry and/or in the nuclear technology industry. In the aerospace and nuclear fields, my knowledge and understanding of thermodynamic principles and the applications of those principles will be indispensable. An example of how I may use the study of thermodynamics in my career would be to to make nuclear systems as efficient as possible within reasonable operating parameters; allowing nuclear energy to finally come out of the shadow of fear that accidents such as Chernobyl and Three Mile Island have cast on the industry and be recognized as a safe and effective form of alternative energy. Every class I take in my pursuit of my Mechanical Engineering Technology degree is a piece of the puzzle, unlocking secrets of how to be an engineer that is knowledgeable, ethical, and capable of being the change they want to see in the world. This class, in conjunction with the rest of my classes, is helping me become the engineer that I aspire to be.
