Biology 121 is one of my favorite classes. I like it because I am able to easily connect the content to myself. With that being said it also makes it a lot easier for me to spend time studying the material. One of the ways I study the material is by using the provided power points to make study guide questions in a Quizlet that I can answer during lecture and also add new key points not on the slides. I like this method because I feel like I am actively learning rather than just rushing to write down notes to learn later. It is also helpful because when it comes time for an exam I do not have to make additional study material. Something I do outside of class is read the textbook because it provides good visuals to help me understand many of the biological processes we are learning about. This is helpful because I am a visual learner.
Biology 122 is the lab that I am enrolled in that corresponds with biology 121. This class does not require a lot of preparation besides reading the provided prelab in order to take a mini quiz at the beginning of class. Typically the prelab is half a page so I will annotate it as I read and then write a short summary at the end. In class one thing I do is read the entire lab before I begin the first step.
Chemistry 105 is the course that I struggle the most with. I think this is because the content is more than just memorization and rather application. In order to prepare for exams and class on my own time, I watch videos on YouTube. That way I am able to be presented the information in more than one way so that I can pick which one is easier for me. This method also provides me with extra practice problems besides the ones in the homework and textbook. A study method that I use during class is summarizing the notes from each slide down to what she tells us we need to focus on. This is because she puts additional information on the slides just for some background on the material. In order to do better in chemistry, I have the option of attending tutoring sessions. Tutoring is a great resource because I am able to get help on a personal level and focus directly on my weaknesses. While that is a great resource for outside of class, one thing I am working on doing in class more often is asking questions. This is something very simple that I have noticed in my other classes is very beneficial.
Art History 127 is a class that is much different from everything else in my course load. Not only because it is not math or science, but also because it operates as a flipped classroom. This means that my professor uploads her lectures for us to watch before class and we use our scheduled class time to have open discussions about the material. I like this method because it allows me to prepare any questions I might have to ask my professor directly in class. Once I have had the chance to ask questions in class I make flashcards on the material with any additional notes I took. This is the best method for me because the information in the class is mainly strict memorization with minimal application.
Stat 130 is the class that I do the best in. This is because my teacher provides us with copies of the notes following class so that during class we can focus on the steps to solve each problem. Outside of class since I have reliable notes I am able to spend time completing problems in the textbook to test myself on the material. This is how I study for tests as well because she pulls problems similar to those in the textbook for our exams. Another thing I do in class to try and grasp the material is actually solving the problem as my professor does it. This allows me to realize much faster when I do not understand something that way I can ask a question.
