SPAN 101

Interpretive, Interpersonal, and Presentational Modes of Communication

Engaging in Communities

I believe it is important to engage with people in your community because there is so much you could learn and gain from those experiences. You could learn about their life or about their culture and gain a different perspective than your own.

Presentational Speaking

This semester we had 3 speakings to do in class. The final one was apart of our final exam and it focused on brushing up on everything we had learned this semester.

The most challenging part for me was answering quickly and making sure my verbal sentences were structured properly. I usually do pretty well with writing assignments because I can look at what I have written and take my time to make sure everything is perfect and accurate, but for speaking you can not do that so I often get very nervous and jumble my words. I would say I did ok, but not great, on my speakings this year. My professor told me what I should work on after each speaking so I will be better prepared and know what I need to practice.

Presentational Writing

In English, give a very brief 2-3-line description of the presentational communication of compositions, pamphlets, blogs, flyers, stories, articles, and any other written presentation activities you completed this semester inside or outside of class for or related to your Spanish learning. Include a copy of a written presentational activity you produced? (See Modes of Communication link for description and examples).

Then, in a paragraph, write a reflection that includes each of the activities you described above in which you explain how you have grown with each assignment or activity. What became easier and what was difficult? How did you overcome the difficulties? What did you excel at and why? How could you do better next time?

Interpretive Listening

In our textbook, we had multiple kinds of listenings. Specifically, about the different subjects being used or about how we think certain words may be spelled, and about how to conjugate our vocabulary words to help us better understand how to write in spanish.

Overall, I really liked the listening activities because it helped gain a better understanding of how words are pronounced and used in sentences. I struggle sometimes with understanding what speakers are saying so these activities were good to practice and help me prepare for in class oral activities or writings.

Interpretive Reading

In our textbook, we had many different kinds of readings to help us better understand the language and we had different activities for these readings to help us engage and learn the subject better. We had examples of emails, letters, and text messages to learn from and do activities with.

At first, I struggled a little bit with how sentences are structured in spanish so these readings helped me with my sentence structure and improved my spanish writing skills.
