1. List the Community Partner / Organization you chose
Harbor Light Hospice in Newport News, VA
a. Provide a brief summary of experiences volunteers can have with the organization
When volunteering at Harbor Light Hospice the volunteers could do a list of things for patients. For example, they would go grocery shopping, prepare meals for the patients, help them with simple chores around the house, provide transportation, provide comfort and support, and many more other helpful things to keep the patient at ease and happy. These volunteers could be at the patient’s home, a nursing home, or a long-term care facility. Patient care volunteers provide a vital service for hospice patients. They’re able to give patients someone who will listen to their stories and talk with them. This type of volunteering is perfect for compassionate, empathetic people who want to help patients who are at the end of their life. Please write a description of the Community Partner(s) by answering these questions:

3. After reflecting on the organization’s goals and mission, have your values, opinions, and/or beliefs about the importance of health changed or grown? Be specific.
My beliefs and opinions have grown significantly. I feel like if a family or one person can’t take care of their loved one who is sick or will be dying soon, their best option for better help is hospice care. I don’t think that this is a bad thing when it comes to hospice care. If this is what someone’s family thinks is best that they can do what they feel is necessary.
4. Thinking about the community partner:
a. How do these services relate to your intended career field?
There are nurses who work in this field at a hospice care facility. There are plenty of jobs as a nurse you can work in. If I wanted to I can work in the field of hospice care or even at a hospital.
b. What Degree Program (other than your current major) could it relate to?
This major could be associates, bachelors, or masters degree in nursing, health care administration, or social work.
c. Would you choose to pursue that major as your parallel major?
I think I would choose this major because it is still in the health field and I can also still try to be a nurse or change to health administration.
d. Why or why not?
I would choose this as a major because I can still be in the medical field or even become a worker in health administrations. I would still be happy if I can still help others and make them feel better.
