  • I chose this as my Parallel Major because I’m still very interested in helping people and I can do some good in this major.

  • Some interesting facts about this major are that this is a major you practice managing, overseeing, and administering the operation of complex health care entities. You can work in a hospital, long-term care facilities, health care systems, nursing homes, pharmacies, and health insurance providers. 

Research at least one career that you can do with this major and provide information on that career.

  • A Health Care Administrator is a career that you can have with this major. As a Health Care Administrator, you can still work in a setting like a hospital where they are helping people. They have responsibility for facilities, services, programs, staff, budgets, relations with other organizations, and other management functions, depending on the type and size of the organization. Unlike clinicians, health administrators or managers do not deal directly with patients on a day-to-day basis.

  • Some classes required for this major are General Biology, Anatomy/ Physiology, Organic Chemistry, General Physics, and Statistics

2. How could you gain professional experiences to learn more about this area of study?

  • I would ask a public health major who is already in the field and see what a week in their life is like. I would look up peoples experiences as a Health Care Administrator and see what their jobs are like.
