Major: <\/strong>Ever since I was little, my dream has been to become a nurse in the United States Navy. I’ve always loved helping those in need, and the ability to assist people of all cultures while simultaneously defending this country is one of the greatest opportunities a person can possess. By attending Old Dominion University as a nursing major, I hope to expand my knowledge of the profession and learn what it takes to become a servicewoman.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Experience: <\/strong>In order to prepare myself for the nursing program, I not only participated in various volunteer engagements through my local church, but also provided care for patients at the Wilbraham Life Care Center as well as Baystate Medical Center, a hospital located in Springfield, Massachusetts. These organizations taught me valuable lessons in collaboration and proper patient care, as well as the importance of giving back to local communities.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The chart below provides a list of tasks I performed at each institution:<\/p>\n\n\n

Baystate Medical Center<\/th>Wilbraham Life Care Center<\/th>Volunteering at St. Cecelia’s<\/th><\/tr><\/thead>
*Clocked patients in and out of the hospital.
*Filed\/organized patient folders.
*Cleaned hospital beds and infusion chairs.
*Shadowed nurses that drew blood\/administered IV fluids.
*Attended floor meetings.
*Scheduled infusion appointments.
*Wheeled patients around the hospital.




<\/td>		*Organized weekly bingo games.
*Gave food\/water to hungry senior citizens.
*Helped elderly individuals play bingo\/manage bingo chips.
*Organized fun holiday activities for residents.
*Wheeled patients around the complex.







<\/td>		*Purchased groceries for struggling families of four.
*Helped organize an ice cream social at a soldier’s home in Springfield, Massachusetts.
*Altar-served for priests from sixth-twelfth grade.
*Cleaned pews before and after holiday masses.
