My Parallel Major would be Psychology. Changing majors to PSychology would be a switch from the College of Health Sciences to the College of Sciences. This would be the major I change to because I would still have the opportunity to help people with problems involving their health. I enjoy exercising and playing sports a lot. The description of the major mentioned a potential career in rehabilitative services and wellness coordinators. This major may provide a good base to go to grad schools for the physical therapy program or Occupational Therapy. This major allows you the opportunity to work in different career areas like hospitals, clinics, rehab centers, and government agencies. Career that fall under this major is an Occupational therapist. Occupational Therapy is a form of therapy for people who are trying to recover from physical or mental illness through activities of daily living. Occupational therapists can work in hospitals, clinics and rehab centers. Occupational therapists earn an average salary of $85,597 in the state of Virginia as of July 30th 2019. Another job that could be obtained from this major is a Psychologist. This could allow me to go to Grad School to obtain a doctorate in psychology to be a psychologist. As a psychologist I could work in many different environments. I would want to work as a clinical psychologist working with people who have different mental disorders like schizophrenia, depression and other neurological disorders. Personally this interest me because my biological father was diagnosed with both Schizophrenia and Bipolarism.
In taking on this major I would need to take Oral Communication, Information Literacy & Research, Literature, and Philosophy and Ethics before getting into the program. I would still be on track even after taking the nursing classes I have set up for next semester. To learn about this course I could partake in internships in the area, speak with other people in the field and talk to some of the current students enrolled in the psychology program. My academic advisor for intended Psychology majors would be Keith Krepcho.
